Psychotherapy and Counselling in East Kent
I am an integrative psychotherapist and supervisor of 15 years standing and have worked within the NHS and voluntary sector where I have managed, supervised and led services. I have also participated in training, workshops and presentations pertaining to addictions, anxiety, depression, family work and complex mental health conditions.
I have additionally worked in the private sector where I have advised on policy and service provision and have provided consultation and therapy to individuals and corporate bodies. Prior to working as a psychotherapist I worked in business and law.
As an integrative psychotherapist I believe in a pragmatic approach to therapy and I am interested in "why and how" different theoretical approaches work for individuals. I think that through integrating and accepting aspects of ourselves, we improve our relationships with our internal and external worlds and that ensures greater contentment and acceptance.
I also believe that change occurs as a result of the collaboration between the client and the therapist and that therapy should be tailored to individual needs.
I have over many years worked with a wide range of issues, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, issues in relation to gender and sexuality, early developmental issues, childhood sexual abuse, career and performance problems, self- development and awareness concerns and addiction issues (drugs prescribed and non-prescribed, alcohol, sex, gambling, internet etc.)
I also work with a number of experienced colleagues who have different specialities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Humanistic Counselling and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy so should a particular approach be considered more appropriate I can refer after an assessment and discussion to the most appropriate therapist.
